💊 Problematic

How can we use circular design for pads ?

🪂 Challenge

  1. Objective: Apply the school's methodology and circular design principles to develop a solution that combines competitive advantage with a regenerative impact on the world.

  2. Concept: Enable women to receive a personalized box each month containing refills made entirely from banana fiber for sanitary pads, and to recycle both the box and the used pads.

  3. Challenge: Have one week to learn the principles of circular design and deliver a meaningful project.

🧠 My approach

  1. Discovery phase

    • Research on the subject: The first phase of the project was devoted to conducting in-depth research on the subject. This involved searching for concrete data and materials (banana fiber was our final choice), determining how these materials could be useful after use, and how to transform them.

    • Product analysis: We broke down and analyzed the composition of a sanitary napkin to better understand the subject and find a suitable solution.

  2. Design

    • UI/UX Design: Design of a mobile app prototype that allows users to track their menstrual cycles, anticipate them by creating and ordering their box, and share information on the subject with others.

    • Product: A box made of recycled banana fiber containing:

    - a recycled fabric pad + waterproof protective layer on top

    - 20 refills of recycled banana fiber pads

    • Identity: Creation of the “Bloody Mary” logo. I played with the letter Y, the shape of a woman's crotch, and the shape of a cocktail glass to create the logo.

📈 Résults & Impact

This project marked a real turning point in my approach to design. Discovering circular design completely transformed my vision: after that, it became difficult to design without seeking to give meaning and generate a positive impact. I also had a particularly enriching team experience, driven by everyone's motivation and passion. It was then that I realized how far a project can go when it is fueled by collective dynamics and dedicated people.
